I'm on the road!
It's been quite a day - I'm totally wiped! We didn't pull out until 9! Mom and Jack made a delicious BBQ, so we had to stop and eat before heading out, of course. After a round of hugs -- okay, maybe two rounds -- we were off!
This bit of the story is somewhat uneventful, so I'll just skip it. Highway Five is still doing well, though, if you're wondering. We had a weird detour because part of the highway was closed, but it was no big deal. And, bam, we were stopping again! Laura and I made it to Redding in three hours, which I'm pretty sure is some kind of record. It's hard to believe the journey has begun though. Somehow, I packed my life all in my car and we are on the road! We will be heading towards Ashland tomorrow, where we have PREMIUM tickets for Henry IV at the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, which I am PUMPED about!!
Sorry this post is so boring.... I'm pretty tired. I didn't take any pictures either, since it was all dark. There will be plenty tomorrow, I'm sure!
Hasta luego!
EDIT: I'm adding on to this post this morning! (Now that I'm not so exhausted I can hardly see straight.) Waking up this morning in a random motel in the middle of Northern California has reminded me of something: I LOVE TRAVELLING. Earlier, I got up and walked around downstairs to get the "continental breakfast" - which, in motel means a banana, some coffee and a Costco scone - and chatted with the lady at the front desk. This place even had orange juice, which is a step up. I know that my mom would be sorely unhappy to see our lodgings (no room service here Mom!) but I don't mind the economy hotels. They've certainly got personality. Also, it's still a step-up from the hostels in Europe. At least I have my own bathroom here! The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, the people were nice -- hey, what more can you ask for, right?
I've already got that traveling excitement again. The goodbyes last night were hard; I'm going to miss San Jose / Santa Clara and everyone there so, so much. The drive was melancholy and contained more than a couple of tears and a slight sense of terror and panic that I was really, truly, actually leaving. I'm only a few hours from the California border, and I can't believe it. I'm a California girl, right!?
But, I'm so excited. It's going to be a blast. And well, why not? You only live once! Might as well live it right.
Alright, all. Time to hit the road. See you in Ashland!
