The Emerald City!

Hi all,

I haven't written in a week - mostly I've just been busy at work and haven't really had a chance to sit down in front of a computer to write this out! Life is good - I've been learning the ropes at work and meeting a LOT of people, which is challenging.  Good thing I'm okay with names!

So, a little recap.  Last Friday we went to this place called Pike Street Fish Fry, and it has free fries on the third Friday of the month.  Yum!  So, I met all of my housemates and the other Seattle house there for LOTS of delicious french fries and cheap beer.  We laughed that we had turned into grown-ups, because we were all sitting around a table, drinking a beer on a Friday night, talking about work.  Afterwards we all went home, grabbed some dinner, and then went over to Cherry Abbey (the other Seattle house) to hang out.  It was a lot of fun, and the perfect Friday night!

On Saturday, my housemate Jen's work was throwing an Open Mic night.  She's the Volunteer Coordinator, so she's essentially in charge of the event! So the eight of us went to that, and had a great time sharing a meal with the clients at Recovery Cafe and listening to their stories through the Open Mic night.  It's an incredibly positive and supportive place, and I was really humbled listening to all of the stories and music that people brought to share.  I sat with a bunch of people I didn't know, and ended up making a couple of friends by the end of the meal together!  And, even better, Recovery Cafe donated all of the extra food to our house! Yum! We feasted for days on that stuff.

Everyone was pretty tired on Sunday, but the weather was beautiful so I didn't want to sit in the house.  I headed out to explore.  I went up Capitol Hill, which is the hipster part of Seattle, and wandered around a bit.  I found Elliot Bay Book Company, which is Seattle's largest independent bookstore and ...wow! What an amazing place!  They even have a Drama Book Club every month, so I just might attend :) They had free WiFi, so I grabbed a lemonade and snuck off into the back corner of the bookstacks to enjoy it.  Afterwards, I went out to one of the nearby parks and sat in the sun reading a book for a few hours.  This is the life, man! I love not having homework!

We haven't quite settled into a pattern of living together yet, but we're starting to.  It's so nice to come home from work and have everyone shout hello to you as you walk in the door! We each sign up for a night of cooking dinner, so its awesome to come home to warm food that you didn't have to cook! Cooking for eight people is its own adventure, but that's a different story.

Alright all! I'll update more tomorrow, I've got to get back to work.  Give me a call or send me a text -- I miss everyone so much!

Love
K
